Associate Attorney

Courtney Umberger is an associate at Fulgencio Law. She brings a background in civil appellate practice and experience gained while serving as an intern for the Honorable Peter K. Sieg in the Criminal Division of the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida prior to his retirement from the bench. She also brings extensive trial experience. She has long championed the rights of those in need of strong advocates.

Before entering law school, Ms. Umberger worked with renowned development economists as a research/staff assistant at the Brookings Institution and the World Bank in Washington, DC. She then moved to the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, serving as lab manager. While at Brookings and MIT, she also served as treasurer and clerk of the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development, Inc. (BREAD).

Ms. Umberger graduated cum laude from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in political science. In 2010, she earned her law degree from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in Gainesville. During law school, Ms. Umberger was an active member of the Florida Law Review, serving as an Associate Managing Editor, receiving the Review’s Accomplished Research Award, and tutoring first-year students in both Criminal Law and Contracts. She received Book Awards in International Human Rights, Trial Practice, and Trade & Human Rights. She also served as a teaching assistant for Trial Practice, Legal Research & Writing, and Appellate Advocacy. Her peers elected Ms. Umberger as one of only three Levin College Honor Committee representatives from their class.

Ms. Umberger proudly calls Tampa home, having lived in six other states and DC. When not practicing law, she enjoys boxing and spending time with family and friends.
