Labor Day is Second Deadliest Holiday for Florida Drivers

Labor Day is the second most dangerous holiday for travelers. This is mostly due to the fact that drunk drivers are on the roads en masse and they contribute to the majority of the nation’s deadly accidents.   

According to a report compiled by a data collection company, during the Labor Day weekends of the past three years, from 2018 to 2020, an average of 445 deadly crashes have occurred.  This data also shows that Labor Day produces 20% more fatalities for drivers than almost any other holiday. Drivers who are under the influence of alcohol are a factor in almost 40% of all fatal accidents. 

The Most Dangerous Holidays for Drivers

Some very grim data compiled by the US Energy Information Administration, the Federal Highway Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the Fatality Analysis Reporting System shows that only Memorial Day is deadlier than Labor Day.

Memorial Day has averaged 448 crash fatalities during the last three years. 

The 4th of July is the third-deadliest United States holiday for drivers. Father’s Day was rated in fifth place, followed by Cinco de Mayo in sixth.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Christmas is historically the safest holiday for drivers, having an average of 325 vehicular fatalities over the past three years.

The article also remarked that national statistics reveal that 52% of these fatal accidents involve a vehicle occupant who was not properly restrained.
